Hong Kong: The disappeared village
2021- 2022
The Hong Kong government implements North East New Territories New Development Areas Planning, which involves converting several rural areas into residential and commercial land. Ma Shi Po Village is one of the villages undergoing demolition. The average age of the people in the village is over 60 years old. They all depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Some of the villagers’ homes have been driven out by government officials using raids. Such as breaking their windows and doors with hardware, cutting off water and electricity, etc.
