Deadly Fire in Hong Kong Marks City’s Worst Residential Blaze in Nearly Eight Decades

November, 2025 - ongoing

A massive fire tore through seven of the eight residential blocks at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district on November 26, 2025, killing dozens and forcing the evacuation of about 900 residents. The scale and casualty toll made it Hong Kong’s most serious residential fire in nearly eight decades. The blaze burned through the night, leaving buildings charred and families displaced. In the days that followed, search operations, mourning rituals, religious ceremonies, and funerals reflected the city’s collective grief over one of its deadliest housing tragedies in modern history.
